Jay Chou Dances Through the Streets of Havana in ‘Mojito’ MV
When people opened their WeChat Moments yesterday, their feed was likely flooded with posts about “Mojito,” Chinese superstar Jay Chou’s new song. Related topics of Jay’s new song were also soon pushed to the hot topics list across different social media.
The new single racked in about RMB 8 million as of 11 a.m. yesterday, 11 hours after its official release. These are proof that Jay Chou is still one of the most successful and influential Chinese pop stars to date.
In fact, as soon as Jay announced the release date of his new single, many who were born in the 80s and 90s began a countdown to the release. Evidently, Jay Chou has been accompanying a generation of Chinese folks throughout the entire period of their teenage life.
Jay Chou said the song is named after the most famous Cuban cocktail “mojito” and his partner, Huang Junlang, wrote the romantic sentiment when meeting love. In addition, in order to better show the style of the song, he went to Cuba to shoot the MV of the song.
In the music video, Jay invited good friends to ride in a bright vintage car on the promenade, with local musician groups playing in the background, incorporating various local instruments such as maracas and guiros.
