Zhou Yuelong fought back from a difficult start to defeat England’s David Gilbert 6-5 and reach the semifinals of the 2026 World Snooker Tour China Open in Taiyuan, Shanxi, on Friday.

Gilbert dominated the opening stages, racing into a 3-0 lead. Zhou responded by winning the fourth frame, but Gilbert regained control and moved 5-4 ahead after a tense ninth frame.

The match then turned in Zhou’s favor. He produced a century break of 100 points in the eighth frame and won three frames in a row to level the match at 4-4. With the score tied at 5-5, both players showed signs of fatigue in the deciding frame. Zhou took advantage of several mistakes from Gilbert to win 6-5 and secure his semifinal place.
