Toyota Plans to Deploy 400,000 Robots Across Global Factories

Toyota plans to deploy about 400,000 self-developed robots across its global production sites, according to a Nikkei report on September 18, as the Japanese carmaker accelerates factory automation. Starting in 2028, Toyota could spend as much as 1 trillion yen, or about 6.4 billion dollars, a year upgrading plants, with 150,000 robots installed at Toyota’s own factories and 250,000 at group companies and major suppliers. The lineup includes humanoid robots such as Eley, a 50-kilogram machine that learns by watching workers and can share skills across the world through data, even training new employees. The plan marks one of the biggest pushes yet to build factories where humans and robots work side by side.
