JD.com Joins Tencent in Backing Chinese Robotics Start-up AgiBot

Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com has invested in AgiBot (Zhiyuan Robotics), a high-flying robotics startup backed by Tencent. Founded in 2023 by Huawei veterans and professors, AgiBot added JD’s subsidiary JD Technology and Shanghai’s government-backed Embodied Intelligence Venture Fund as new shareholders, each taking a 0.75% stake. The firm’s registered capital rose to 82.6 million yuan ($11M). AgiBot leads in funding among Chinese peers amid the country’s humanoid robot boom. Details on the funding round remain unclear, with no immediate comments from JD or the startup.
