China’s Buddhist regulator vows stricter discipline and supervision following the scandal of Shaolin Temple’s former abbot Shi Yongxin. Accused of embezzling funds, sexual misconduct, and having children with multiple women, Shi faces criminal penalties and karmic consequences. The “CEO monk” with an MBA, ordained in 1981 and abbot since 1999, has had his ordination certificate cancelled.
