CATL Expands Chip Ambitions with New Automotive Semiconductor Venture
宁德时代加码芯片布局 成立汽车半导体新公司
China’s leading electric vehicle battery maker, Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), has partnered with Unigroup Guoxin Microelectronics to establish a new automotive chip company in Beijing. The firm, Tongxin Micro Technology, will focus on automotive domain controller chips and has a registered capital of 300 million yuan (US$43 million). Guoxin Micro’s subsidiary Tongxin Micro will hold a controlling 51 per cent stake, while CATL’s Wending Investment will own 5 per cent. Four employee stock platforms under state-owned Tsinghua Unigroup will collectively hold 24 per cent. The new company plans to acquire Tongxin Micro’s automotive chip business for 193 million yuan, a valuation reflecting a sharp appreciation. Guoxin Micro said CATL’s involvement would strengthen customer ties and help share the long-term investment risks of chip development.
中国电动车电池巨头宁德时代（CATL）与紫光国芯微电子合作，在北京成立一家新的汽车芯片公司——同芯微科技，专注于汽车域控制器芯片。该公司注册资本为3亿元人民币。国芯微旗下同芯微持有51%的控股权，宁德时代旗下问鼎投资持股5%，清华紫光体系下的四个员工持股平台合计持股24%。新公司计划以1.93亿元收购同芯微的汽车芯片业务，该估值较账面价值大幅提升。国芯微表示，引入宁德时代有助于深化客户合作关系，并分担汽车芯片研发所需的长期资金投入和风险。
