China’s C919 Reaches Milestone with First Female Captain

China has appointed its first female captain to fly the domestically developed C919 passenger jet, marking a milestone for both the aviation industry and gender representation. Yu Yue, a former Boeing 737 pilot with China Southern Airlines, transitioned to the C919 programme earlier this year after intensive training. she has maintained a “zero-error” record since joining the airline in 2015. Trained at the Civil Aviation Flight University of China, Yu was selected among senior pilots shifting from Boeing and Airbus aircraft to the C919. The narrow-body jet, built by Comac, is designed for short- and medium-haul routes and is seen as China’s alternative to the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320. Yu said she accepted the transfer without hesitation and hopes her promotion will inspire more women to enter aviation.
