Nio to Accelerate Battery Swap Network Expansion in 2026

Nio plans to accelerate its battery swap infrastructure expansion in 2026 by adding at least 1,000 new swap stations, following a slower pace over the past two years. The company added 679 stations in 2024 and 681 in 2025, after a peak of 1,011 new stations in 2023. Founder and CEO William Li said Nio will begin deploying its fifth-generation battery swap stations in 2026, which offer 20 percent higher capacity than the current fourth generation. Nio recently completed initial battery swap coverage along the 2,700-kilometer Yunnan-Tibet route. The company is also increasingly partnering with local firms to share construction costs and reduce capital expenditure.
