OpenAI is stepping up its enterprise ambitions in 2026 by appointing Barret Zoph to lead AI sales for business customers. Zoph, a former OpenAI executive, recently returned after serving as co-founder and CTO at Thinking Machine Labs. His appointment comes as OpenAI faces declining enterprise market share despite launching ChatGPT Enterprise early and attracting over 5 million business users. Rivals are gaining ground, with Anthropic leading enterprise LLM usage and Google’s Gemini steadily expanding. Concerned about competition, especially from Google, OpenAI has made enterprise growth a top priority, reinforced by a newly expanded multi-year partnership with ServiceNow to broaden access to its models.
