GM Ends Chevy Bolt EV, Shifts China and Mexico Production to Kansas

General Motors plans to end production of its rebooted Chevrolet Bolt EV next year as it restructures manufacturing to reduce reliance on China and Mexico. The move is driven by higher costs tied to U.S. tariffs and the end of the federal $7,500 EV tax credit. Bolt production at the Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas is expected to wind down within about 18 months, despite the model being one of the most affordable EVs at $29,990. Starting in mid-2027, gas-powered Chevy Equinox production will move from Mexico to Kansas, followed by the China-built Buick Envision in 2028. GM says the Bolt was always planned as a limited-run model, while future affordable EV investments remain uncertain.
