Seduction for Sale: China’s ‘Sexual Intelligence’ Guru Sparks Fame and Fury

A woman in central China has become a controversial internet celebrity after earning more than US$3.5 million by teaching women how to enhance their sex appeal to revive marriages. Zhou Yuan, a former banker from Changsha, Hunan province, is widely known online as the “Godmother of Sexual Intelligence”.

Now in her late 40s, Zhou left the finance industry to run a beauty salon before founding the Black and White Sexual Intelligence School. She defines “sexual intelligence” as a blend of physical allure, psychological insight and personal charm that helps women attract and maintain their partners’ attention.

Her courses, which recently went viral on mainland social media, have attracted more than 200,000 followers. In short videos, Zhou demonstrates techniques such as seductive eye contact, advising women to keep their heads still while moving their eyes to appear softer and more alluring. In other clips, she teaches women to adopt a flirtatious tone, soften their voices, and compliment their husbands when asking for help.

Zhou also shares tips on body language, fashion choices and “seductive phrases”. Her business model combines low-cost online classes, starting at 9.9 yuan (about US$1.50), with high-end offline workshops priced as high as 88,000 yuan (around US$13,000) per session. According to Chinese media outlet Lanjing News, her paid courses have generated more than 24 million yuan (US$3.5 million) and attracted tens of thousands of students.

Some participants praise Zhou for helping them rediscover confidence and intimacy. One woman said the courses helped her embrace her body and brought renewed passion into her marriage.

Zhou argues that her lessons empower women by teaching them to take control in intimate relationships. Despite this defence, the controversy continues. As of January 23, her social media accounts had been banned and her courses removed, reigniting debate in China over gender norms, morality and the booming self-improvement industry.
