Tesla Opens China AI Hub to Boost Self-Driving Push
Tesla has begun operating a China-focused artificial intelligence training centre to advance its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, marking a key step towards commercialisation in the world’s largest EV market. The hub, confirmed by Tesla vice-president Grace Tao, has enough computing power to support assisted-driving development, though details remain undisclosed. Its launch comes as Beijing eases regulations and Chinese carmakers accelerate plans for level 3 (L3) autonomous vehicles. Analysts say intensifying competition will benefit consumers, with thousands of L3 cars expected on Chinese roads in 2026. The centre is also expected to help Tesla adapt its software to complex local traffic conditions.
