Tesla has begun operating a China-focused artificial intelligence training centre to advance its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, marking a key step towards commercialisation in the world’s largest EV market. The hub, confirmed by Tesla vice-president Grace Tao, has enough computing power to support assisted-driving development, though details remain undisclosed. Its launch comes as Beijing eases regulations and Chinese carmakers accelerate plans for level 3 (L3) autonomous vehicles. Analysts say intensifying competition will benefit consumers, with thousands of L3 cars expected on Chinese roads in 2026.
