AI Summit Scandal: Indian University Accused of Misrepresenting Chinese Robot
An Indian university has faced backlash after a professor showcased a Chinese-made robot dog as its own innovation at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi. Neha Singh from Galgotias University introduced the robot, called “Orion,” claiming it was developed by the university. However, social media users identified it as the Unitree Go2 by Unitree Robotics, priced around $2,800 and widely used in research. The controversy intensified after Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared the clip before deleting it. Galgotias later clarified it never built the robot. The incident embarrassed organizers, overshadowing the summit attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and tech leaders like Sundar Pichai and Sam Altman.
