BYD Unveils Megawatt EV Chargers That Rival Gas Refueling Speed

BYD has introduced a new generation of “Flash” charging stations capable of delivering up to 1,500 kilowatts of power, making electric vehicle charging almost as quick as filling a gas tank. Paired with the company’s new Blade 2.0 lithium-iron-phosphate battery, EVs can charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes and reach about 97% in roughly nine minutes. Tests showed a Denza Z9 GT gaining over 1,000 kilometers of estimated range in under ten minutes. The chargers are designed like traditional gas stations and feature lightweight charging guns and plug-and-charge capability. BYD has already built 4,200 stations in China and aims for 20,000 by the end of 2026, with plans to expand globally.
