Middle East Tensions Force Chinese Tech Firms to Pause Expansion
Rising conflict involving Iran after a US-Israel attack is disrupting the Middle East operations of several Chinese technology companies that had recently expanded in the region. Firms have begun suspending services, shifting employees to remote work and reviewing emergency plans as security risks increase. Baidu, which launched its Apollo robotaxi service in Abu Dhabi in January and had been testing in Dubai, halted operations and testing in coordination with local authorities. The region has become an important market for Chinese tech firms seeking global growth, especially in areas such as autonomous driving and smart mobility. However, escalating geopolitical tensions now threaten short-term business activity and highlight the vulnerability of overseas tech projects to regional instability.
