Apple’s Record Quarter Shadowed by Rising Chip Costs
Apple reported record March-quarter revenue of $111.2 billion, with strong global growth and high demand for the iPhone 17. However, CEO Tim Cook warned that rising memory chip costs could soon pressure the company’s performance. Apple has already spent more on memory due to industry shortages driven by AI demand, a trend dubbed “RAMageddon.” While existing inventory helped offset recent costs, expenses are expected to rise further. The shortage has especially affected iPhone production, with RAM costs reportedly quadrupling. Apple may raise prices as supply chain flexibility tightens. Incoming CEO John Ternus will face these challenges, though Cook will remain as executive chairman.
