Meituan Cuts Losses Despite Ongoing Competition

Meituan reported its third straight quarterly loss, but the first-quarter adjusted net loss narrowed to 4.97 billion yuan from 15 billion yuan in the previous quarter. Revenue rose 5.6% year on year to 91 billion yuan, helped by lower food delivery subsidies and better operating efficiency. CEO Wang Xing said competition in food delivery is easing, while broader local service rivalry still pressures profits. He also highlighted overseas growth and AI investment. Meituan’s Keeta delivery business improved efficiency in Hong Kong and Saudi Arabia and continued expanding across other Middle Eastern markets.
