AI-Driven Memory Shortage May Push Apple Device Prices Higher
Apple customers may soon have to pay more for iPhones, Macs, and iPads as the global AI boom drives up the cost of memory chips. Outgoing CEO Tim Cook has warned that soaring prices for DRAM and NAND chips—the essential components used for memory and storage—are making higher product prices increasingly difficult to avoid.
Although Apple has not confirmed which products will become more expensive or exactly when the increases will take effect, industry experts believe the next iPhone lineup is the most likely target. Apple is expected to unveil its new iPhones in September, providing a natural opportunity to adjust pricing. Other products relying on the same chips—including the Apple Watch, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro—could also be affected.
According to research firm TechInsights, Apple may need to raise the price of its next iPhone Pro by about $270 to maintain its current profit margins. The current iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1,099, meaning a significant increase could make premium models considerably more expensive.
