Polestar Barred from Selling New EVs in U.S.

Polestar said the Trump administration has blocked it from selling new electric vehicles in the U.S. after denying a special exemption under the “Connected Vehicle Rule,” which restricts cars using Chinese software or hardware. The Geely-owned Swedish automaker will continue selling its remaining Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 inventory and support existing customers. Since 94% of its first-quarter 2026 sales came from outside the U.S., Polestar said it will shift its strategic focus toward Europe. The decision contrasts with sibling brand Volvo, which previously received approval to continue selling vehicles in the U.S.
