Monzo in Talks to Sell to Brazil’s Nubank at £10 Billion Valuation

British digital bank Monzo is in talks to sell itself to Brazil’s Nubank at a valuation of about 10 billion pounds, or around 13 billion dollars, according to reports on September 27. Sky News and Bloomberg said the deal would create one of the world’s largest digital banking groups, combining Monzo’s 11 million UK customers with Nubank’s more than 100 million clients across Latin America. Talks are at an early stage and no final agreement has been reached, with private equity firm Advent also reported to be interested in buying a stake in Monzo. Founded in 2015, Monzo is one of Britain’s most popular app-only banks, known for its coral-colored cards and budgeting tools. A deal would mark the latest consolidation in the fast-growing fintech sector.
