Novo Nordisk’s CagriSema Beats Lilly’s Zepbound in Weight-Loss Trial

Novo Nordisk said on September 21 that its experimental obesity and diabetes drug CagriSema achieved greater weight loss than Eli Lilly’s Zepbound in a late-stage clinical trial. In the 60-week REIMAGINE 5 study of adults with type 2 diabetes, patients taking CagriSema lost an average of 12.4 percent of their body weight, compared with 9.1 percent for those on a 5-milligram dose of tirzepatide, the active ingredient in Zepbound. The combination drug, made of cagrilintide and semaglutide, also showed a similar improvement in blood sugar control. The results give the Danish drugmaker a strong challenge to Lilly’s dominance in the booming weight-loss market, which analysts expect to grow to more than 100 billion dollars a year. Novo Nordisk’s shares rose after the announcement.
