iPhone, Galaxy and Pixel Prices Rise as Memory Chip Shortage Bites

Smartphone prices are climbing across the industry as a memory chip shortage pushes up component costs. Samsung raised prices on its Galaxy S26 series by 100 dollars on October 1, lifting the base model to 999 dollars, about 25 percent above the price of its predecessor a year ago. Google followed on October 3, increasing the Pixel 10a by 100 dollars to 599 dollars, while Apple quietly raised the price of the iPhone 17 by a similar amount in September. Samsung has also increased prices on several mid-range Galaxy models in the United States. Industry analysts say the increases stem from surging prices of RAM and NAND flash memory, driven by strong demand from AI data centers. With memory costs expected to stay high, more price increases could be on the way, adding to the cost of everyday devices for consumers around the world.
