Beijing’s measures involving two metals for tech sector follow controls from the US, Netherlands and Japan
“为维护国家安全和利益”,中国将对镓、锗实施出口管制,以此反击美国、荷兰和日本的半导体管制措施。

China has hit back at US-led semiconductor restrictions by seeking to throttle exports of two metals used in chipmaking and communications equipment as the geopolitical tit-for-tat between the two superpowers steps up.
随着中美两个超级大国之间的地缘政治斗争愈演愈烈,中国决定对两种用在芯片制造和通信设备的金属限制出口,以此反击美国主导的半导体出口管制。

Gallium and germanium will be subject to export restrictions in order to “safeguard national security and interests”, China’s Ministry of Commerce and Administration of Customs said on Monday. Exporters will have to apply to the ministry for permits from the beginning of August, it said.
中国商务部、海关总署周一联合宣布,“为维护国家安全和利益”,将对镓、锗实施出口管制。从8月起,出口企业须向商务部申请,获得许可后才能出口相关材料。

Both materials can form alternatives to traditional silicon wafers in specialised applications, as well as for components used in military and communications equipment.
这两种材料在一些专业的应用中可以替代传统的硅晶圆,还可以用在军事及通信设备的组件中。
