Microsoft has announced that Skype, once a video-calling giant with hundreds of millions of users, will shut down in May.

As one of the world’s most popular platforms, Skype allowed users to make free voice calls via computers. While not the first in this space, it played a key role in popularizing free PC-to-PC calls.

In a post on X, Skype advised users to log in to Microsoft Teams with their accounts to retain chats and contacts.
