BP Shifts Back to Oil, Aiming to Double Market Value to $200 Billion in Five Years
BP’s CEO Murray Auchincloss has set a target to more than double the company’s market value to $200 billion within five years, returning to the level it held before the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster.
Speaking to the Financial Times, Auchincloss said BP would capitalize on “tremendous” demand for oil and gas, after abandoning its plan to reinvent itself as a green energy company earlier this week.
The move, which received a lukewarm market response, is an admission that the energy transition is progressing far more slowly than expected. BP’s current market value stands at £70 billion ($89 billion), leaving a long road ahead to meet its ambitious target.
