China Plans Robot Army for Power Grid
China is rapidly expanding AI-powered robots to manage its power grid. The State Grid Corporation of China will invest 6.8 billion yuan (about US$1 billion) in 2026 to deploy embodied AI robots. Around 8,500 units will handle tasks like inspecting remote substations and maintaining ultra-high-voltage lines. The move highlights China’s push to automate critical infrastructure, improve efficiency, and reduce human risk in hazardous environments.
