In 2025, budget electric vehicles from Geely Auto and Wuling Motor led China’s EV market, outperforming industry giants BYD and Tesla. Geely’s Xingyuan became the mainland’s top-selling battery EV, with sales surging to over 459,000 units from 52,570 the previous year. Priced between 68,800 and 98,800 yuan (about US$9,960 to US$14,300), the model appealed to cost-conscious consumers amid fierce competition. Wuling’s Hongguang Mini EV, also priced below 100,000 yuan, ranked second with 427,000 units sold, marking a 55 per cent year-on-year increase. The figures, compiled by a research unit under China’s state automotive authority, highlight growing demand for affordable EV options in the world’s largest auto market.
