Chinese optical transceiver manufacturer Zhongji Innolight has secured commitments from more than 30 cornerstone investors ahead of its planned Hong Kong initial public offering (IPO), according to people familiar with the deal.

The company, a leading supplier of high-speed optical transceivers used in AI data centres, has already allocated nearly half of its base share offering to major long-term institutional investors. These include BlackRock, Temasek Holdings, and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB).

Zhongji Innolight is expected to officially launch its IPO on July 30, with a fundraising target of US$8 billion. If successful, the listing would become Hong Kong’s largest IPO since Alibaba’s US$12.9 billion share sale in 2019, highlighting renewed investor enthusiasm for AI-related companies.

The strong demand from cornerstone investors reflects growing confidence in the company’s role within the rapidly expanding AI infrastructure market. Optical transceivers are critical components that enable high-speed data transmission between servers and networking equipment in large-scale AI data centres, where demand continues to surge worldwide.

The participation of globally recognized asset managers and sovereign wealth funds also provides an important vote of confidence in the IPO, potentially attracting additional institutional and retail investors as the offering moves forward.
