Mark Zuckerberg Buys a Historic Irish Castle

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has added a rather unusual property to his real estate portfolio: a 19th-century castle in Ireland.
Zuckerberg reportedly purchased Strancally Castle, along with its 440-acre estate, for an estimated $23 million to $35 million. The property is located near Waterford, about a two-hour drive from Dublin, where Meta has its international headquarters.
A spokesperson said Zuckerberg and his family are excited to take care of the historic property and spend more time in Ireland.
The castle offers plenty of space and history. According to reports, it has at least 11 bedrooms, four tower suites, a library, dining room and drawing room. Sitting beside a river and surrounded by greenery, the estate is a dramatic change from a typical luxury home. Zuckerberg bought it from a financier who had lived there with his family for 25 years.
The purchase also has a practical connection to Zuckerberg’s business interests. Meta has maintained a major presence in Ireland for years, including a data center near Dublin that opened in 2017.
This is not Zuckerberg’s only major property purchase this year. He and his wife reportedly spent another $170 million on a mansion in an exclusive Miami neighborhood that is also home to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
With two huge property purchases in one year, Zuckerberg is continuing to expand a real estate portfolio that matches his status as one of the world’s wealthiest tech executives.
