Oil Prices Return Above $100 a Barrel as US Diesel Hits Record High
Global oil prices climbed back above 100 dollars a barrel this week for the first time since mid-May, and US diesel prices surged past 6 dollars a gallon for the first time on record, according to industry data. Brent crude settled above 107 dollars a barrel on September 10, up more than 6 percent, while the US benchmark WTI rose above 102 dollars. Rising energy costs have pushed gasoline prices higher at the pump and added to inflation pressures in major economies. China also raised its domestic retail prices for petrol and diesel this week. Analysts warn that a sustained rally in crude would squeeze consumers and complicate central banks’ fight against inflation.
