Microsoft and Nvidia unveiled a new wave of AI-powered Windows personal computers on October 7, headlined by the Surface Laptop Ultra, a 15-inch laptop built around Nvidia’s new RTX Spark chip. At a San Francisco event, CEOs Satya Nadella and Jensen Huang said the device can run large AI models locally, with Microsoft claiming local AI inference is twice as fast as a comparable MacBook Pro and on-device video generation up to six times faster. The laptop offers up to 128 gigabytes of unified memory and is aimed at running AI agents without relying on cloud servers. Priced from 2,599 dollars, it is available for pre-order now and ships on October 16. Compact AI desktops will follow in November. The launch positions Windows as the home for hybrid intelligence, mixing cloud and on-device AI.
