Meta Expands AI Age Checks on Facebook and Instagram

Meta announced it will use AI to scan photos and videos for clues that users may be under 13, including height and bone structure. The company said the system is not facial recognition because it estimates age without identifying individuals. AI will also review posts, comments, captions, and profile details for age-related signals. Suspected underage accounts may be deactivated unless users verify their age. The technology is already active in some countries and will expand further. Meta is also widening Instagram’s stricter Teen Accounts system and bringing similar protections to Facebook in the U.S., U.K., and EU.
