Anthropic has released Opus 4.8, its latest flagship model, just 41 days after Opus 4.7. The unusually fast release follows mixed feedback on the previous version and rising competition from OpenAI’s Codex and Google Gemini Flash. Opus 4.8 delivers improved benchmark performance and a stronger focus on reliability, including better uncertainty awareness and fewer unsupported claims. Early testers, including Bridgewater, noted that the model proactively flags issues in inputs and outputs. The release also introduces Dynamic Workflows in research preview, enabling large models to coordinate hundreds of subagents for complex tasks like large-scale codebase migrations. Anthropic also signaled progress on its more powerful Mythos model, though it remains restricted for safety reviews.
