UMG and TikTok Join Forces Against AI Music Abuse
Universal Music Group (UMG) and TikTok have renewed their licensing agreement, pledging to remove unauthorized AI-generated music and improve crediting for artists and songwriters. The deal marks a major change after a 2024 dispute, when UMG temporarily pulled its music from TikTok over concerns about copyright protection and AI-generated content. As AI tools increasingly imitate artists’ voices and create fake songs, the music industry faces growing challenges. The agreement could become a model for handling AI, intellectual property, and platform responsibility. TikTok is also strengthening ties with the music industry through services such as TikTok for Artists, which provides promotional and performance data.
