Microsoft Sees Big Anthropic Gain While OpenAI Investment Slips

Microsoft reported a $3.2 billion gain from its Anthropic investment in the latest quarter, adding 33 cents to earnings per share. The company invested $5 billion in Anthropic in 2025, alongside a deal for the AI startup to purchase $30 billion in Azure services. Meanwhile, Microsoft reduced the value of its OpenAI investment by $600 million, lowering quarterly EPS by 7 cents. Despite the write-down, Microsoft posted strong quarterly results with $90 billion in revenue and $35.8 billion in net income. Over the full fiscal year, its OpenAI investment still generated a $5 billion gain.
