Apple Builds Inventory as Memory Shortages Push Up Costs

Apple is increasing its inventory as it prepares for worsening memory chip shortages driven by the AI hardware boom. Despite posting its strongest June quarter ever, with iPhone sales up 22% and Mac sales up 29%, CEO Tim Cook warned that supply constraints will become much more severe. Apple now holds $11.1 billion in inventory, nearly double last September’s level, to secure key memory for its A-Series and M-Series chips. The shortages have already forced Apple to raise prices for Macs and iPads, joining other tech companies facing higher hardware costs.
