Thief swallows nails to escape penalty

A thief in Benxi, Northeast China’s Liaoning Province, swallowed nails and iron wires as long as 15 centimeters before stealing in the hope of escaping police penalties.
Quite contrary to his expectations, however, he was forced to the hospital for operation by the police and given an even severer punishment for swallowing the objects.
为逃避公安机关打击处理，犯罪嫌疑人在偷东西之前先将15厘米长金属异物吞进肚内，企图拿这护身。不过，这名扒手弄巧成拙了，让他没想到的是，民警将其抓获送到医院取出异物后，依然将其刑事拘留，而吞食异物将成为被加重处罚的情节之一。
