Tesla Owner Asleep at the Wheel on Highway: Rear-Ends Another Car and Flees
English
In terms of intelligent assisted driving experience, Tesla‘s Autopilot has been well-received by car owners. However, it is still far from fully autonomous driving, and drivers are required to pay constant attention to the road to take over the vehicle if necessary. On August 5, 2023, the Henan Highway Traffic Police Corps received a report of a rear-end collision between two cars on the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau Expressway in Anyang, with one car fleeing the scene. At the accident site, the rear-ended driver said that the other car was a Tesla, and after being rear-ended, the car did not stop but instead accelerated and fled. Later, the police found that the Tesla with the license plate was “autonomous driving” all the time on the first lane, and the driver was asleep at the wheel. The police contacted the driver, Mr. Hu, through police channels, who admitted that he did not stop and left the scene after rear-ending someone because he was in a hurry.
