China’s men’s football team defeated Singapore 2-1 in an international friendly on June 5. Sai Erjini’ao opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a header from Xie Wenneng’s cross. China doubled its lead before halftime when Zhang Yuning converted a penalty after a handball by Singapore captain Hariss Harun. Singapore fought back in the second half, and Ilhan Fandi scored in the 76th minute following a Chinese defensive mistake. Veteran striker Wu Lei made his 100th appearance for China after coming on as a substitute. China will face Thailand on June 9 in Zhejiang, where head coach Shao Jiayi will make his home debut.
