Sony to End Physical PlayStation Game Discs by 2028

Sony will stop making physical discs for all new PlayStation games starting in January 2028. New titles will be sold digitally through the PlayStation Store and other retailers, while older games will still be available on disc. Sony said the move matches changing consumer habits, as digital downloads made up 85% of PS4 and PS5 game sales in fiscal 2025. Although many gamers enjoy collecting physical editions, the company believes most players now prefer digital games. Sony will also begin closing older PlayStation digital stores, while previously purchased content will remain downloadable.
