C919 Remains an Option for Malaysia Airlines

China’s C919 remains a future option for Malaysia Airlines, but the airline prefers to wait until the jet earns Western safety certification. Bryan Foong, CEO of airline business at Malaysia Aviation Group, said he expects Comac’s C919 to eventually gain approval from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and, hopefully, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Such certification would help Malaysia and other countries accept the aircraft. Foong said the airline may consider the C919 for fleet expansion around 2035 or later.
