US Back-to-School Spending Hits Record, Topping $100 Billion
American families are set to spend a record $103.5 billion on back-to-school shopping for college students this year, the first time the total has crossed $100 billion, according to the National Retail Federation. Average spending will reach $1,438 per student, up from $1,326 last year. Families are starting earlier and hunting for deals as college costs keep climbing, with many universities’ total bills approaching six figures.
