Deloitte Forecasts US Holiday Retail Sales to Top $1.7 Trillion

US holiday retail sales are projected to reach between $1.70 trillion and $1.71 trillion from November through January, up 4.0 to 4.8 percent from a year earlier, according to Deloitte’s annual forecast released on September 10. The consulting firm said rising disposable incomes are supporting spending in the crucial shopping season, even as consumers remain focused on value and discounts. Deloitte expects e-commerce to keep growing faster than in-store sales, with online spending forecast to rise 7 to 9 percent. The outlook is among the strongest in recent years, a positive sign for retailers heading into the final quarter.
