Anthropic said on September 16 that Claude Cowork and chat are merging into a single Claude experience, removing the need for users to choose between a quick answer and a longer, agentic task. Claude will now decide on its own how to handle each request, even continuing work after a user closes their laptop. The company also introduced Claude Docs and Claude Slides, which can generate and edit office documents and presentations, and folded its design tools into the chat interface. The rollout begins with Pro and Max plans on web, desktop and mobile over the coming weeks, with more plans to follow. The move puts Claude in more direct competition with Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 in AI-powered office work.
