OpenAI Hires SpaceX Executive as First VP of Worldwide Sales

OpenAI has hired Brian McCarthy from SpaceX as its first vice president of worldwide sales, the company announced on September 17, as it builds a traditional enterprise sales force ahead of a possible public listing. McCarthy joined SpaceX in August through its acquisition of Cursor, where he served as president of global revenue and worldwide field operations, and previously led enterprise sales teams at Rubrik, ThoughtSpot, AppDynamics and Qlik. He is the first major hire under Dali Rajic, OpenAI’s chief revenue officer, who started in late August. OpenAI has also recruited two senior figures from data-analytics firm Snowflake. The appointments signal that the ChatGPT maker is moving to convert corporate demand for AI into durable revenue.
