Meta Open-Sources Muse Gadgets SDK and Gives Away Free Smart-Home Hardware

Meta has open-sourced the tools needed to build custom hardware for Muse, its personal AI agent, the company announced on October 2. The Muse Gadgets project publishes an ESP32 firmware and a Linux software development kit under the Apache 2.0 license, letting hobbyists turn ordinary boards and Raspberry Pi computers into devices Muse can see, hear and control. Featured ideas include a color E Ink reminder display, an HDMI stick for the television and a small touchscreen gadget. Meta also built its own reference device, the Muse Home Link, a USB-C dongle that connects Muse to home Wi-Fi and smart-home appliances. The company manufactured 5,000 units and is giving them away free to active Muse subscribers in the United States, with shipping expected this month. The move is part of a broader push to put AI assistants inside everyday objects beyond the smartphone.
