Pony.ai Teams Up with Tencent to Expand Robotaxi Reach via WeChat

Chinese robotaxi firm Pony.ai has partnered with Tencent to integrate its autonomous ride services into WeChat and Tencent Maps, granting access to over one billion users. This move is expected to significantly boost revenue potential and support its commercialisation push amid fierce competition. Following the announcement, Pony.ai’s shares surged 47%. The partnership also includes a testing and simulation platform for the full development cycle of autonomous vehicles. Despite reporting US$181 million in losses in late 2024, Pony.ai aims to turn things around by leveraging Tencent’s strong cloud infrastructure and user base.
