Apple Maps Moves Into Ford’s Next-Generation EVs

Apple has introduced MapKit for Automotive, a new tool that lets automakers integrate Apple Maps directly into vehicle infotainment systems. Ford will be the first partner, bringing the technology to its next-generation EVs, starting with a $30,000 midsize truck in 2027. Unlike Apple CarPlay, MapKit runs natively in the vehicle. It will offer EV-friendly navigation, real-time traffic updates, battery preconditioning and detailed destination information. The system will also support Ford’s upgraded BlueCruise driver-assistance technology by providing road-level mapping data. Apple says the platform could eventually support smart-home features and commercial fleet services, while remaining available to other automakers.
